Fun Fact: Roald Dahl

Many know that famous children's writer Roald Dahl worked as a spy for the British Security Coordination (BSC) during WWII. One of his early short stories was a fictionalized account of his time as a pilot in the RAF. For this story, he was paid $1000 (~$18.9k today) minus a 10% commission for his agent, so $900 (~$17k today).

Dahl was also a card enthusiast who promptly lost this $900 to a Senator from Missouri who would, in time, come to be a pretty major national figure: Harry Truman.
